Basically I wanted to share with the world, or the like two people who will ever see this blog, my brilliant brain child that is Transcendental Tuesdays. I live in a big city so I'm constantly surrounded by pavement and cars and obnoxious people and fumes and all that good stuff, and schoolwork takes up nearly all my time. The rest of it I used to spend cooped up in my room writing creative fiction on my laptop. Suffice it to say, I got hella tired of that kind of living. Wake up, go to school, come home, do homework, sit on my computer, go to sleep and then repeat.
The last Tuesday I had finally had enough and decided that I wanted to go hiking. It was random because I never really go hiking, but at that moment in time it seemed like the thing to do. I wanted some fresh air and to go walking where it was actually fun and interesting rather than just the six flat blocks to and from school. So my friend and I went down to a park nearby and wandered into the woods. It was night time so we could see the stars and the air was cold but not deathly, making a fairly pleasant walk, until we saw the raccoon. It looked kind of like this...
Naturally, we ran away screaming and the walk was over, but I learned something from it other than the fact that there are really terrifying raccoons in the park near my house. Nature is pretty chill. Not only that, there is so much culture out there that I had been missing out on, and now I am diving headfirst into a quest to discover as much as I possibly can.
Transcendentalism is described as a philosophy that questions society for it's willing conformism and urges people to find themselves in a different way that society would suggest them to. Basically, we are not what grades we get or how much work we do, our lives are connected to our world in a more significant way. Significant transcendentalists like Walt Whitman and Ralph Waldo Emerson liked to find this significance in the connection they had with nature, hence why I've decided to take up hiking as my first gateway to a more free lifestyle.
I'm not a very spiritual person, but I do believe that there is a certain amount of self consideration that each person must take when making life decisions. I realized that I only have two days off of school each week, and some societal norm was put in place that for the remaining five days I couldn't do anything other than my homework, that I could wait for the weekend to do fun things. I disagree with that. School and work is mandatory, but at the same time nothing should take up so much of our lives that we're left with just two out of every seven days to actually do things we enjoy, learning and exploring on our own. Whether it be reading or writing, hiking or even playing video games I believe that for the sake of our stability, humans need to pursue their own interests once in a while. This is why I'm making this blog. i want to share my own pursuit of adventure and knowledge with everyone because I feel like there might be someone out there stumbling across this blog that will be interested.
So every Tuesday I will have a transcendental experience, something to take myself away from all the scheduling and hellish work that I have to do and remove me to a place where my head doesn't hurt all the time. Also, I'll post some of my favorite music and books and other cultured things like that so that hopefully I can share with you people some of the things that I find therapeutic, because let's face it, we could all use a little therapy. NATURE IS OUT THERE, GO GET IT!
